Dibs - Faculty & Staff Campaign - FAQ

What is "Dibs: Claim It, Name It, Give!"? "Dibs" is an exciting new initiative specifically for UCO faculty and staff. It's a unique opportunity for you to make a temporary, commemorative naming on campus in exchange for a philanthropic gift. It's a fun way to show your UCO pride, build camaraderie, and directly support vital student and employee programs.

When can I "call dibs," and for how long will the names be displayed? The opportunity to "call dibs" ends on Tuesday, September 30th, at midnight. Approved names will be displayed on temporary signs across campus from October 2nd to October 31st.

Can I "call dibs" for someone else or as a group? Yes! You can name a location after anyone you want to honor (e.g., yourself, a partner, family member, or department). A sign can contain up to three names. Locations can also be named in honor of a group.

  • Group Contributions: Our system processes individual donations. If a group is contributing, one person will be responsible for the primary donation and calling dibs. To ensure all contributors receive proper credit, please email gyoung9@uco.edu with the names and amounts contributed by each individual in your group.
  • Multiple Locations: Yes, you are welcome to "call dibs" on more than one location! Each location will require a separate donation at its respective tier level.

Choosing Your Location & Naming
Can I choose any location on campus? You can choose from a variety of campus locations, including lampposts, benches, rooms, lawn spaces, buildings, trees, and flagpoles, based on your selected donation tier. However, not all locations are available. Locations that have been permanently designated or previously named in honor of an individual or entity are not eligible for this temporary "Dibs" campaign.

For a comprehensive and up-to-date list of currently claimed locations and permanently excluded locations, please refer to our Dibs Locations: What's Available & What's Off-Limits page. Please note, the list of permanently unavailable locations on that page is not exhaustive.

Is my desired name and location guaranteed? No, your desired name and location are not guaranteed, even if they don't appear on the "claimed" or "excluded" lists. All proposed names and their associated locations (including "write-in" submissions) are subject to final approval by the Office for Advancement.
After you make your gift, you will receive an automated email confirming your donation. However, this email does NOT confirm the final approval of your requested location or the exact name to be printed on your sign. A representative from the Office for Advancement will contact you via email within one business day to confirm your 'Dibs' spot and sign details, or to discuss alternative options if your first choice is unavailable or requires adjustment. Locations are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, and availability is constantly evolving.

What kind of name can I put on the sign? You can choose to display your own name, the name of a loved one (partner, family member), your department, or any name you wish to commemorate, provided it adheres to university policies and is approved by the Office for Advancement. Names should be respectful and appropriate for a university setting.

Your Gift & Impact
Where does my donation go? Your gift will directly support our campus community through one of three focus funds below or any fund that you wish to contribute towards:

  • Central Pantry: Provides food and essential items for students and employees.
  • Bronchos Helping Bronchos: Offers emergency financial assistance to students facing unforeseen crises.
  • UCO Cares: Provides emergency financial assistance to faculty and staff. You also have the option to designate your gift to another fund of your choice within the University of Central Oklahoma Foundation.

What are the donation tiers? We have three tiers, each offering different types of locations:

  • Buddy Level ($25): Lamp posts, Benches, Rooms, and Lawns (e.g., Broncho Lake Bridge, Buddy’s Lawn, Nigh University Center South Lawn).
  • Bronze & Blue Level ($50): Buildings and Lawns (e.g., Academy of Contemporary Music, Business Building, Jazz Lab, Reflection Park).
  • Legacy Level ($100): Premium University Locations (e.g., Broncho Lake, Central Gateway, Old North).

Understanding the Temporary Naming & Signage
Does "calling dibs" mean I get exclusive use or reservation of the space? No, absolutely not. Please understand that "claiming" or "calling dibs" on a location through this initiative grants temporary commemorative naming only. It does not grant exclusive usage rights, nor does it reserve the space for any individual or group. All named spaces remain fully accessible to the university community and the public. This is purely an honorary recognition for October.

What will the sign look like and where will it be placed? Each approved location will feature a fun, temporary foam board 12x18 sign displaying your chosen name. These signs will be placed visibly at your designated location across campus, installed around October 2nd and removed by October 31st.

Is this a permanent naming opportunity? No, this is a special, temporary campaign. All commemorative namings through "Dibs" are for October only. The signs will be removed at the end of the month. This campaign celebrates giving in a unique, time-limited way.
