Transforming our Community

We exist to raise the quality of life for those around us. Our programs and services get better with the quality of the people who use them. Since opening in 2004, we have impacted thousands of students, faculty and staff, community members and guests from around the world. Our desire to promote the wellness transformation of our constituents is stronger and more focused than ever.

Sport and Recreation for Your Life

We serve the internal campus community through progressive recreation programs. We meet the needs of our external community through unique partnerships and high-level events.

  • Intramurals and Sport Clubs: We know participation in sport is central to a healthy lifestyle. We currently offer intramural competition for both men and women in more than 20 different sports and oversee four different sport clubs for those that want to participate in competitions against other universities/clubs around the region and nation.
  • Outdoor Recreation: Oklahoma is often referred to as an outdoor sportsman’s paradise. In 2009, our Center for Outdoor Adventure Recreation opened at Arcadia Lake through a partnership with the City of Edmond. We provide unprecedented access to outdoor archery, canoe, kayak, rowing and hiking. We also provide leadership and team building training through our ULEAD Challenge Course program and newly constructed Rock ‘N Central Climbing Wall.
  • Olympic & Paralympic Sports: We have a unique niche in the sporting world as the only university in the nation to be named an Official U.S Olympic (2009) & Paralympic (2005) training site. This consists of any Paralympic sport in addition to tae kwon do and volleyball. We currently host 14 resident athletes, who live, train and receive their education at Central. We also serve as the host-training site for both the Men and Women’s U.S. National Teams for Paralympic Sitting Volleyball.
  • Elite Sporting Competitions: The Endeavor Games for athletes with physical disabilities is the nation’s largest multi-sport competition of its kind. Additionally, we played host to the 2010 World Championships for Sitting Volleyball. This event brought 33 men and women’s teams from 25 countries to campus for the largest international volleyball competition to ever be staged in the United States.
  • Health and Fitness for Your Life: We strive to transform the wellness of our campus and surrounding communities by offering first class facilities and cutting edge-health promotion programs and initiatives.
  • First Class Facilities: We feature state of the art cardio and weight training equipment, an indoor walking/running track, one outdoor and two indoor basketball courts, a group fitness room, two classrooms and a fitness assessment lab.
