UCO Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship

Legacy Scholarship

Learn more about the UCO Alumni Association Master's Scholarship.

The UCO Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship is awarded to second and third generation students who make UCO their choice for an undergraduate university degree. This $1,000 annual scholarship is renewable for four years. The Alumni Association will award four legacy scholarships in the 2017-18 school year.

2016-17 Legacy Winners

  • At least one parent or grandparent who graduated from UCO
  • 3.0 minimum GPA for incoming students and for reapplying students
  • Enrolled in 12 hours or more per semester

Note, a student who does not meet the eligibility criteria at the time of enrollment cannot become eligible in a future semester.

How to apply

  1. Incoming freshmen must be enrolled at UCO by July 31 before their freshmen year to be considered.
  2. Incoming freshmen must designate that they are a legacy on their admissions application.
    • Applicants who fail to identify themselves as a legacy on their application will not be considered for the scholarship.
    • The office of Alumni Relations cannot alter or edit a student’s admissions application.
  3. All incoming freshmen who qualify are automatically entered into consideration by virtue of their admissions application. There is no specific legacy scholarship application.
    • Legacy status will be verified prior to the disbursement of the scholarship.

Transfer students are also eligible to receive the UCO Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship. Transfer students must be enrolled at UCO by April 1 for the upcoming school year and must designate that they are a legacy on their admissions application. The process will then proceed similarly to incoming freshmen regarding qualification, consideration and application.

The Office of Alumni Relations will notify the scholarship recipients of their selection within the first two weeks of the semester. The Alumni Association’s Legacy Committee will be responsible for selecting the recipients. The selection process is competitive and is based on need, GPA, test scores, and essays on the admission application. The essays are used to break a tie so please take them seriously. Award recipients are required to attend the Distinguished Alumni Award Luncheon on the Friday of homecoming to be recognized as a legacy scholar. Legacy scholars will be treated to lunch at that event. Guests are welcome to attend, but they are responsible for their own ticket to the event.
