Delilah-Joiner-Martin-_Alumna-Spotlight

Alumna Feature

Alumna Dr. Delilah Joiner Martin was recently honored with the Oklahoma Mother of the Year award by American Mothers. This national award recognizes mothers across the country for their dedication, resilience, and commitment to their families and communities.

Dr. Martin is a family studies and gerontology professor at Southern Nazarene University and a first-generation college student who earned her master's in education with an emphasis on counseling psychology from Central.

In 2014, Dr. Martin's daughter, Kaytie, passed away unexpectedly just days before her wedding. To celebrate Kaytie's life, Dr. Martin initiated community-wide campaigns called #27actsofkindness and #livelikekaytie. She used her grief journey as an opportunity to support other mothers and make a positive impact on the community.

Additionally, Dr. Martin, Kaytie, and her other daughter, Leigha, volunteered at the UCO Endeavor Games, and today, an award is given in Kaytie's name called The Kaytie Joiner Volunteer of the Year Award for the Endeavor Games.
