What's the story behind #SaveOldNorth? Why should we care about a building that has been closed for more than ten years? It feels like we have done just fine without it, so what's the big deal now?
No matter how you frame it, Old North is special for not only the University of Central Oklahoma, but also our state. Can you even begin to imagine what the individuals who decided to create a center of learning in Edmond were thinking? Big dreamers united by one common goal - to educate the future for Oklahoma.
With our beginning in 1890, just a year after Oklahoma's historic land run, our visionary pioneers created a purposeful and lasting symbol of the future of education in our state - Old North.
Old North is the first building of higher education in Oklahoma and the first permanent structure on the campus of what is now the University of Central Oklahoma. Whether you are a fan of historical architecture, or a lover of learning - Old North has found a special place in the hearts of many.
We started this fundraising journey several years ago with the Always Central campaign. Together we worked to raise $40 million in support of scholarships, teaching, programs, facilities and a fund for the future. Now with nearly $40 million raised, we still haven't reached our funding goal to #SaveOldNorth. We still need $3.5 million to reopen her doors.
What Can We Do Today?
Give. Give to Old North because this is your university and Old North symbolizes your education and commitment to better your future. Old North is that professor who believed in you. Old North is that colleague who inspired you. Old North has been educating the people of Oklahoma for 125 years. Old North is our home.
Our mission was to raise $18,900 in 30 days. We did that and some more, landing at $56,301! But we can't stop there. Give your gift and then email this site to your friends, family and loved ones. Encourage them to forward on to their contacts. Little by little, we can do this. We won't give up until her doors are open once again.
